Marbella United FC headed into their final weekend full of confidence before wrapping up for their Christmas break. Both the U18’s and MUFC Blue remain unbeaten heading into 2016!!
First off was MUFC Blue who had their longest road trip of the season ahead of them. With complacency haunting MUFC this season with a traditional slow start, this game was no different. Letting in an early goal off another set piece created an uphill struggle for one of 3 remaining unbeaten teams in their league, however they soon got going. With Senior Daniel Man leading by example by being the engine in the midfield, others were soon to feed off his energy.
MUFC Blue got back on top of the game but found it difficult to break down their stubborn opponent. MUFC Still trailed going into half time down 1-0. With the away team stepping up the tempo in the 2nd half they created chance after chance but were still not able to really test the GK. It wasn’t until the 3rd minute of stoppage time that Adil El Jirari managed to turn a shot/cross past the stranded keeper, who could do nothing but watch the ball fire past him into the back of the net. El Jirari a Spanish defender has been on the sidelines for the past 5 weeks with a knee injury but was able to help guide his team to a well-deserved point and remain unbeaten in 2015.
MUFC U18’s made hard work of a game where it was top vs. bottom in their league. With the score line being a kind reflection to the unbeaten team in orange they got off to a solid start with goals coming consistently throughout the game with goal scorers being; Wu, Buono, Kuznicki (2) William & Own goal. The impressive thing about the MUFC performance and attitude was not the score line or the performance, but in fact the disappointment in not keeping a clean sheet. The standard this team has set themselves is a credit to their determination and togetherness that will make them a target going into the second half of the season. With the football being played, exceptional in parts and average at times, is what excites the team the most knowing that they can still perform at a higher level, this will be expected from them after Christmas.
With players departing back to the USA throughout this week it is time to unwind and enjoy the time together. It starts off this Tuesday evening (15th) with MUFC’s 1st Xmas Do. Hosted at the Manolo Santana Racquet club where players can unwind and truly get into the Christmas spirit.
We wish everyone in the MUFC Family, safe travels and a Merry Christmas!!
